Refresher Driving Lessons: Build Confidence Behind the Wheel

Already have a full driving licence but haven't driven for a while?

Our refresher driving lessons are designed for qualified drivers who want to rebuild confidence, improve their driving skills or become comfortable driving again after a period away from the road.

Perhaps you passed your driving test several years ago but haven't owned a car, have recently moved to a new area, or simply feel nervous about returning to driving.

You may also want additional practice with roundabouts, busy junctions, parking, dual carriageways or unfamiliar road layouts.

At Tomis Driving School, refresher lessons can be tailored to your individual experience and the situations you find most challenging.

There is no need to feel embarrassed about taking additional lessons after passing your test. Refresher training is a practical way to improve confidence and develop safer driving habits.

Who Are Refresher Driving Lessons For?

  • Full driving licence holders who have not driven for months or years.
  • Drivers who feel nervous or lack confidence.
  • Drivers returning to the road after a long break.
  • Qualified drivers who want additional parking or manoeuvring practice.
  • Drivers who want to become familiar with local roads and traffic conditions.

What Can Refresher Lessons Cover?

  • Roundabouts and junctions
  • Parking and reversing
  • Urban driving
  • Dual carriageways
  • Traffic awareness
  • Independent driving
  • Familiarisation with changing road layouts and current Highway Code guidance

About your licence

Refresher lessons are for people who already hold a full driving licence. A full licence only covers the vehicle categories shown on it: for example, a licence for automatic cars only does not cover driving a manual. Lessons are in a manual car, so let us know what your licence covers when you get in touch. A refresher lesson does not replace a driving test or change what your licence allows you to drive.

Motorway Driving Lessons: Gain Confidence on Faster Roads

Motorway driving can feel intimidating, especially if you have limited experience of high-speed roads or have recently passed your driving test.

Our motorway driving lessons provide structured tuition to help eligible drivers develop confidence and improve their ability to navigate motorways safely.

Depending on your existing experience and the instructor's assessment, lessons may cover joining and leaving motorways, lane discipline, safe following distances, observation, overtaking, motorway signs, smart motorway features and responding to changing traffic conditions.

Motorway tuition can be particularly useful for newly qualified drivers or experienced drivers who are uncomfortable with motorway journeys.

Can Learner Drivers Take Motorway Lessons?

Under the rules in Great Britain, learner car drivers may take motorway lessons only when accompanied by an approved driving instructor in a vehicle fitted with dual controls. The instructor must consider the learner ready for motorway driving. Motorway lessons are voluntary.

Motorway driving is not part of the practical driving test.

Driving Test Day Car Hire & Pre-Test Warm-Up

Prepare for your practical driving test with our Driving Test Day Package.

The package provides 2.5 hours covering the agreed use of the instructor's car, a pre-test warm-up session and travel to and from the test centre.

The warm-up provides an opportunity to practise driving before your scheduled test, settle any last-minute nerves and review important driving skills.

Use of the instructor's car is subject to prior agreement, availability, insurance conditions, the vehicle meeting DVSA requirements and the instructor's assessment of your readiness.

What's included, and what isn't

  • The £100 is Tomis Driving School's charge for the instructor's car, the warm-up and travel to and from the test centre.
  • The DVSA practical driving test fee is separate and is not included. You pay it to DVSA when you book your test.
  • You book your practical driving test through the official GOV.UK service. Please tell us your intended test date before you book so we can check the car is available.
  • If the instructor believes you are not yet ready for the test, the car will not be provided until you are.
  • No driving school can guarantee a pass, and we don't.
