Terms & conditions
1. Driving licence and fitness to drive
All pupils must hold a valid driving licence (provisional, full UK, or international) and present it before their first lesson. The licence must remain current throughout tuition. Any endorsements, restrictions, or suspensions must be reported immediately. Pupils must be medically fit to drive and meet all legal and DVSA requirements. While every effort is made to ensure compliance with the law, any driving offences or penalties incurred during lessons remain the pupil's responsibility.
2. Lesson duration and scheduling
All lessons are two hours in length and arranged by mutual agreement between pupil and instructor. Regular weekly slots may be maintained to support consistent progress, though this cannot always be guaranteed. If the instructor is delayed by more than fifteen minutes, the lost time will either be added to the same session or carried forward. Lessons start and finish at the agreed meeting point unless an alternative has been confirmed.
3. Training location and travel time
For safety and practicality, the instructor may determine the most suitable training location. Any travel to and from that location forms part of the paid lesson. Sessions typically begin and end at the same point unless otherwise agreed.
4. Pick-up and drop-off policy
Free pick-up and drop-off are available from the pupil's home or workplace. If you would like to be picked up or dropped off at a different location, please inform the driving instructor in advance of your lesson.
5. Lesson payments
All payments must be made at least 24 hours before the lesson by bank transfer or another approved method.
If payment is not received, the booking will not be confirmed.
All cash payments are issued with an official receipt. Where a slot has been reserved without payment, the instructor may cancel it and offer it to another pupil. The test-day fee is £100, which includes use of the instructor's car, a pre-test warm-up, and travel to and from the test centre.
6. Block bookings
Block bookings must be paid in full before the first session. Each lesson is two hours long and must be used within six months of the first booking. Lessons are not transferable. Refunds are calculated at the standard hourly rate for completed sessions, with any balance returned by bank transfer.
7. Cancellations by the pupil
A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule any lesson, including test-day bookings.
Failure to provide sufficient notice, or failure to attend, will result in the full lesson fee being charged.
Repeated short-notice cancellations may lead to refusal of future lessons.
8. Courtesy reminders
Text or app reminders (where provided) are purely a courtesy. Non-receipt does not remove the pupil's responsibility to attend or cancel within the required 24-hour notice period.
9. Cancellations by the instructor
Occasionally, a lesson may need to be postponed due to illness, unsafe weather, or vehicle issues. Pupils will be notified as soon as possible, and the session will be rearranged at no extra cost.
10. Vehicle condition and insurance
The instructor's vehicle is taxed, fully insured for tuition, roadworthy, and fitted with dual controls. Pupils using their own vehicle must provide proof of tax, MOT, and insurance specifically covering professional instruction.
11. Alcohol, drugs, and medication
Lessons will be terminated immediately if the pupil appears under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication impairing safe driving. The lesson fee will still apply, and further tuition may be refused.
12. Driving tests: readiness, booking and use of car
Pupils must inform the instructor of their intended test date before booking to ensure availability. A minimum two-hour booking is required for the test day. The instructor will usually conduct several mock tests before the official one.
If the instructor believes the pupil is not ready for the test, the car will not be provided until the instructor is satisfied that the pupil is fully prepared and safe.
The instructor reserves the right to refuse vehicle use if safety could be compromised.
13. DVSA and external cancellations
If a test is cancelled or postponed by the DVSA or test centre (for example, due to bad weather or examiner illness), the booked lesson or test period remains chargeable. Where possible, the paid time will be carried forward.
14. Vehicle failure during test and limitation of liability
Every effort is made to ensure the tuition vehicle is safe and compliant. The instructor cannot be held responsible for unforeseen mechanical failure during a test and accepts no liability for consequential loss.
15. Conduct and safety
The instructor may terminate any lesson if the pupil behaves in an unsafe, abusive, or disrespectful manner, or if conduct endangers others. The full fee will still apply, and future lessons may be refused.
16. Fees, refunds and changes to terms
Tuition fees and Terms & Conditions may be updated periodically. Reasonable notice will be provided before any change takes effect. Refunds (where applicable) are processed by bank transfer within seven working days.
17. Consumer rights
These Terms & Conditions ensure fairness and transparency for both pupil and instructor. They comply with UK consumer law and do not affect statutory rights.
